Forms
Record of Invention
The Record of Invention (ROI) if a form that any faculty member, staff, or student, need to submit when disclosing an invention to our office. Disclosure is a requirement. The ROI contains key information that will be referenced throughout the entire intellectual property process. If you need assistance in properly filling out your ROI do not hesitate to contact our office either by phone, (209) 228-4678 or by email, ott.ucmerced.edu. If your invention is submitted to the patent process, please submit a digital photo for your invention to the ott.ucmerced.edu email address. This will allow us to properly portray your invention in our Inventions brochure.
Non-Disclosure Agreement
In the course of academic research, there may occassionally be a need for a UCM employee to hold discussions with someone from an outside entity. Typically, it is necessary for the communicating parties to maintain any information they share in strict confidence. Reasons for wanting to ensure confidentiality include, but by no means are limited to: protecting unpublished results, precenting disclosure of unpatented inventions, preventing the dissemination of personal date and to keep a party from using or plagarizing ideas of the other. Non-disclosure agreements (NDA or also known as confidentiality agreements, confidential disclosure agreements, or secrecy agreements) are legal contracts between the parties that identifies and outlines the information (whether in tangible form or not) that the parties intend to share, as well as stating the purpose behind the exchange of information. Like all other legal documents, NDAs can only be signed by an authorized signatory of UCM and a counterpart from the other party. However, we encourage that our investigators acknowledge, by signature, that they have read the NDA and understand their obligations under the agreement.
